TELEGRAMS. ST. CROIX STATION. London., May 31st.—A number of the foremost physicians siurgeons and other prominent persons have formed an or- ganization for the promotic~ of car-_.r research. The first step is an ¢ .ergetic movement to encourage investigation of the disease was the issue today of an earnest appeal throughout the British Empire for funds to aid in the work. Tae movement is to be known as “'The B itish Cancer Campaign’’. The pro- moter, in order to comply wich the law regarding the holdingz of public moneys. have inenrporated themselves. Accord- ing to official statisties for the year 1921, cancer was answerable for one in every seven deaths of persons over thirty years of age in England and Wales. Moscow, May 31st.——The contents of the latest memorandum of Lord Curzon dealing with the dispute between Great Britain and Russia, strengthens the be- lief that the crisis has not passed. The m=morandum reiterates the old demands and make new ones, but is somewhat emphatically insistent on the withdrawal of Russian representatives in Persia and Afghanistan who are alleged to have been earrying on anti-British propagan- da. While as yet there has been re offi- cial consideration of the memorandum the opinion is genzral that tte demands are even more than the originial uitima- tum. The only British concession is that instead of calling for an apology and the withdrawal of Russia’s representatives, it says transference to other points within a reasonable time would be considered No. 128. E satisfaciory. The memorandum is wer j ed more amicably than the uitimatum. | It agrees toa conference over the limit | of territorial waters, if the other powers | so agree, but in the meantime, without | a formal convention, it wants Russia to ’ admit British fishing rights upon the | three mile limit from the coast. The ; memorandum suggests compensation to | the amount of 3,000 pounds in the case [ of Mrs. Harding, newspaper correspon- | dent, who suffered arvest at the har . | of Russia and 2,000 ».unds in the case nf Caarles F.
