Postmaster. | Le Correspondence The Editor ‘‘St. Croix Avis’. Dear Sir: It appears that the Thursday night show at the Christiansted Theatre is a dead letter at present. No show for two | Thursday nights since Mr. Svendsen left | for Denmark. What is really the cause? “We read in your paper of yesterday ‘‘as | new arrangements have been made with | regard to delivery of Films there wili be | no show Thursday night.”” Do we un- | derstand that to mean that there will be | show on Monday nights only, or what? | Patrons of th:e Theatre had got quite ac- | customed to these entertainments very | instructive at times, and we are sorry to | see that one of the nights seems tc have | sunk into oblivion. ; Our sister island St. Thr mas is well off | for cine shows. There are the C(ine | America and the New Apollo Theatre, | in which some very up-to-date dramas | are being shown. Something more. ‘“‘The Lion Man’’ that interesting serial is so cut up now, or in other words, only four chapters are shown every Monday evening, that it is difficult for one to grasp the story. We understand this is no fault of the Man- ager of the Theatre, but we hope some effort will be made to adjust this matter for future serials. 1.& us have six chap- ters twice a week. We are sure che act; ing Mapnager will do his best for his pa e trons. In conclusion we beg to inform other patrons of the Th atre that the tamous Lowande and Gardner Circus, well known here, is expected in St. Thomas tomor- row (Friday). We arz sorry to learn that our young- townsman, Mr. E. Mc Ketney, who is also a member of the U. S. Navy Band, is at present lying ill at the Naval Hos- pital.—St. Thomas Mail Notes, May 4th. The trial of the murder case in Tortola, in which the family of Dawsons play the chief role, has created quite a sensation in that otherwise quiet little place. Thus far, the two sons have been convictes and will be hanged. The father who is said to be implicated is, however, free. St. Thomas Mal Notzs, May 6th. OBITURY. We are sorry in having to chronicle the death this morning, at 9.30 o’clock, of Mr. Rosenstand, at the age of 55 years. Deceased, who was well known, was for some time Chiet Clerk of the Gov- ernment Office here, and later of the St. Thomas Telephone Co. While aware of his late illness, his death has come as a surprise to his friends, as up to Saturday tie was about. The funeral akes place at 5 o’clock, from his late residence above the Nation- al Bank., thence to the Western Cema- tery.. On Friday the Lowande and Gardner Circus will arrive here by the schooner Mystery and will give their first exhibi- tion the same night. Mr. Lowande is no stranger to this place having been here several times in the past years. . His circus has been showing in Porto Rico since last December with great suc- cess. It has been some years since the people have had this pl:asure and we are sure the Lowande aund Gardner Circus will be well patronized.—St. Thomas Bulletin, May 9th. / TELEGRa MS. R CROIX STATION. Berlin, May 9th.—Sentiment in Ger- man political circles was showing a drift at noon today in favour of agreeing to the Allied reparations terms. Itis now believed ¢ parliamentary coalition which will aecept the Allied ultimatum will b constituted within the next 24 hours. Paris, May 9th.—United States repre- sentatation at the Allied conference was resumed today, when Mr, Wallace, the American Ambas=sador. took his seat at a session of the courcil of ambassadors here. Mr Wallace received his instrue- tions last night from the Secretary of State to represent his Govt. at the am- bassadoria/ conferences. His appear- ance was warmly greeted hy M. Cambon, the president of the council, and other members of that body. Mr Wallace was oiven a seat at M Cambon’s right. The problem of [Jpper Silesia was the subject of ithe deliberations of the council this morning. Mr. Boyden, who formerly sat with the Allied represedtation committee at its sessions, has received invitations to resume his seat with that body. Daris, May 9th. -M. Jonnart, ex-Allied Migh Commissioner at Athens and ex- traordinary Ambassador to the Vaticar, has been definitely selected by the French Government, according tn “*Le- clair’”’ today, as Ambassador to the Vatican. Stockholm, May 9th.—Capital punish- ment in Sweden has been abolished by a measure passed by the Rikstag. Berlin, My Bth.—Germany has con- cluded a preliminary trade agreement with Soviet Russia and the convention beec me effective on May 6th., according to the official text which has been made public here. Berlin, May 9th. Reports from Ger- man sources declare that advices flO Upper Silesia, up till Ist night, show- ed no diminuation in the gravity of the situation there, caused by the Polish in- surgent movemendt, New York, May 9th.—The break of a quarter of a cent in the delivered price of raw sugars, made by the sale late on Wed- nesday of 10,000 bags of Porto Rico’s in port, to the lederal at 4.64 c. cif, equivalent to 3.375¢. cif, for Cuba’s as reported yesterday, tended to increase the unsettled feeling at the opening yesterday.
