Be it resolved by the Colonial Council for St. Croix in session as- sembled; That the Gove.nor be and he is hereby | authorized to sell the parcel of land and- | building know :as East Hill School, situ- | ated in East End Quarter Ain the island | of St. Croix, for the sum of Five Thou- | sand Francs (Frs. 5,000) provided, | however, that the deed shall contain a | provision to the effect that the Govern- | ment may repossess itself to title of the | property at any time for the purchase | sum. | Thus duly passed at the sth Ordinary Meeting of the Colonial Council held Monday, March 1, 1920. HE attention of all owners and drivers of low carts, porters, and cartmen in the Island of St. Croix is hereby call- ed to the following paragraphs of the Ordinance of 15th May 1875 concerning Porters and Cartmen. : Paragraph 17th. ““Carts must always be loaded in a proper manrver, so that there be ro danger of their being upset, or of their dropping the load, or of their breaking down on the way, of their causing dam- age or inconvenience to ihe traffic, or to passers by. No cart-load with one horse, must, without special permission, be of a greater weight than 800 lbs. on level ground, and half of that weight up-hill. Paragraph 18. “The Police may cause vehicles (carts, horses, and harness) to be examined at any time, in order tc ascertain whether they are in a state suited to the require- ments and safety of the public, and adapted to the other considerations that must be observed. If any portion of the vehicle be found incomplete, or out of order, the Police wilt zive the necessary injunction, which must always be obeyed without delay; the Police may also. if considered necessary, prohikit further use for a time., or permanently, of the vehicle, either the whole or any part thereof, and the parties are farthcr- more liable to other responsibility accord- ing to law, especially the enactmenis con- cerning punishment for ill-treatment of animals, and to the forfeiture of their rense’’, JOHN L.
