Oriol of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) announces that the Florence Williams Public Library will host a special book reading and literacy promotion event featuring retired educator, Myrtle Fredericks on Saturday, July 18, at 2 p.m. at the library in Christiansted. During the event, Ms. Fredericks will read Spider-Man: Through a Hero's Eyes, featuring Miles Morales. The story follows the young Spider-Man as he learns that being a hero is about more than superpowers—it’s about courage, responsibility, and helping others. Through Miles’ experiences, young readers are encouraged to believe in themselves and recognize that anyone can make a positive difference in their community. …

The Florence Williams Public Library continues to celebrate local authors, storytellers, and community readers who help promote literacy and a lifelong love of reading. Director Amy DeSorbo invites families and readers of all ages to attend this engaging afternoon and enjoy a story shared by one of the community’s enthusiastic advocates for reading. Children’s books are available in both audio and digital formats through the U.S. Virgin Islands Digital Library on Hoopla Digital with a valid USVI Public Library System card, making it easy for young readers to read, listen, and learn wherever they are.
