London, July 12th.—A Berlin message cave it ismannounced there that the re. sult of the nlebiscite in West Prussia and fiast Prussia shows an overwhelmingly German majority. ' London, July 13th.—A strong attack was made in the House of Commons vesterday on the Govt’s. financial policy. especially the excess profits tax. The discussion came up over the finince bill, which is in the comniittee stage. Mr. Austen Chamberlain, replying to eri- ticisms, declined to reduce the excess profits duty below 60% as provided in the budget, but he promised that next year the duty would not excead 40%. The Chancellor also wundertock that there should be ne more borrowing, but said the nation should -begin, while it was | prosperous, to make an early endeavour to reduce the debt. He was glad to say that at the Govt’s. advlee, the banks were | showing more caution in advancing credits for speculative purposes. | ".ondon July 13th.—Lieut.
