ACTNO. ‘7014 BILL NO. 27-0185 TWENTY-SEVENTH LEGISLATURE OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS Regular Session 2008 An Act amending 12 V.I.C., adding chapter 14 to enact the Brownsfield Revitalization and Environmental Restoration Act ---0--- WHEREAS, the Legislature finds that the elimination of public health and environmental hazards on existing commercial and industrial real property in the Virgin Islands is vital to the land’s use and reuse as sources of employment, housing, recreation and open-space areas; and WHEREAS, the reuse of commercial and industrial real property is an important component of a sound land-use policy which will prevent the needless development of prime land, open-space areas and natural areas and reduce public costs for installing new water, sewer and highway infrastructure; and WHEREAS, there are legal, financial, technical, and institutional impediments to the efficient and cost-effective cleanup of Brownsfield sites as well as all other contaminated sites wherever they may be; and WHEREAS, the Legislature further finds that the Government of the Virgin Islands needs to …
