HE President of the United States T having designated Thursday, the thirtieth day of November as a day of aational thanksegiving, supplication and devotion, I, HENRY H. HOUGH. Gov- e ‘nor of the Virgia Islands of the United Scates of America, do earnestly recom- mend that the people of these islands gather at their family altars and in their houses of worship on that day to render thanks to God for the bounties they have enjoyed and to petition that these may be continued and increased in the year b=fore us. In the beginning of our country tha custom was established by the dzvout fathers of obsarving annuilly a day o! thanksgiving for the bouanties aal pro tection which Divine Provid:2nzce had ex- tended throuzhout the year and it is emirently fitting that the custom should b 2 perpetuated. No country and no pzople are without their trials and tribulations, no country and no people are without the bounties and protection of the Divine power,--let us all on this day of Thanksgiving seek only toremember the laster.
