CROIX, USVI NOAA Land Use Planning Tools: Examples for Island Resource Managers This workshop will discuss NOAA impervious surface and land cover data available for the US Virgin Islands and will demonstrate the spatial decision support tools Habitat Priority Planner (HPP) and the Nonpoint Source Pollution and Erosion Comparison Tool (N-SPECT) with emphasis on the needs of island resource managers. These tools assist users with classifying habitats and predicting the impacts of land management decisions. Both tools are implemented in Environmental Systems Research Institute’s ArcMap™ software package, and require the Spatial Analyst™ extension. or Introduction to Data Collection Using a Global Position System (GPS) Unit and the Integration with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) This workshop introduces users to GPS and how they are integrated into the GIS workflow. The participant will learn how to increase productivity during field survey, increase accuracy of GIS and share information with others in the field and the office. This workshop is designed for resource managers and others who want to understand how to add value to their existing GIS investment to support mobile applications. In addition, program managers who want to incorporate GIS tools into their existing workflows will also benefit. Participants should bring their own wireless internet-ready laptop computer. Other Requirements Evaluation copies of the software to be used in the workshop will be provided.
