Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 2 •HR 3635 IH SECTION 1. TRANSFER OF AUTHORITY TO MANAGE AND 1 CONTROL CHRISTIANSTED NATIONAL HIS- 2 TORIC SITE. 3 (a) IN GENERAL.—Upon the request of the Governor 4 of the Virgin Islands, the Secretary of the Interior shall 5 enter into an agreement with the Governor which transfers 6 to the Governor the authority to manage Christiansted 7 National Historic site, located in Christiansted, Virgin Is- 8 lands. 9 (b) CONTENTS OF AGREEMENT.—The agreement 10 under subsection (a) shall include provisions which— 11 (1) transfer the authority to manage Christian- 12 sted National Historic site upon a determination by 13 the Secretary of the Interior that the Government of 14 the Virgin Islands has the financial ability and com- 15 mitment to maintain and operate the site without fi- 16 nancial assistance from the Federal Government; 17 (2) retain for the United States fee title to all 18 property comprising Christiansted National Historic 19 site; 20 (3) require the Government of the Virgin Is- 21 lands to continue to use Christiansted National His- 22 toric site for the purposes for which it is used on the 23 date of the enactment of this Act, in accordance 24 with standards and plans approved by the Secretary 25 that shall be specified in the agreement; and 26 3 •HR 3635 IH (4) authorize the Secretary to terminate the 1 agreement and revoke authority transferred by the 2 agreement, if the Secretary finds that the Govern- 3 ment of the Virgin Islands is not complying with re- 4 quirements under paragraph (3) or is otherwise not 5 in compliance with the agreement. 6 Æ
