The British Schooner ‘‘Emma Belli- veau’’ of St. Johns, Newfoundland, ar- rived at this port this morning at 6 o’clock with a cargo of 385 Tons Gas coal for ““La Grange’’ Sugar Factory. Governor Oman has been informed that the Duteh Cruiser Zeeland which was scheduled to sail from Holland for Curacao on October Tth. will call at Por- to Rico from about December Ist. to De- cember 4th. and at St. Thomas from about December Bth. to December 11th. At a meeting of the Food Commission heid yesterday at which all the members were present, the prices of charcoal by the bag and in smaller quantities were changed. The following prices of char- coal were fixed: Charcoal at wharf or boat 65 cents a *bag, delivered at resi- dence 75 cents a bag:; kerosenetin 14 cents, half kerosene 7 cents, gallon tin 3 cents, quart measure, (No. 3 tomatoe tin 1 cent). Wheat flour was reduced from 9 cents to 8 cents. Pink peas reduced from 14 cents to 12 cents, black eye peas from 13 cents to 11 cents. The price of all sugars was increased one cent per pound. Upon representations made by the Danisb West India Electric Light Co., and after due investiga.io> as to the ne- cessity therefor, the Government has au- thorized an increase of 5 cents per K: W. H. for electric current supplied by that Company. This is a. temporary inerease and is effective only to December 31. of the present year, unless it shall ap- pear at that time that a continuance of such temporary rate is still necessary in order that the Uompany may operate without a loss. Sir, My attention has been drawn to a paragraph in the Herald stating that although the Island ‘‘used to pay such a tremendous amount fcr the running of an Experiment Station at Anna’s Hope yet we have got practicallv no result from it’’. Further the Herald go=s on to say, ‘‘it is to be hoped that the public will get some information as to the work of the Station, and the num- ber of persons it has helped and who have got results from the advices given.”’ In the first place I should iike to state that the tremendous amount paid tor the running of the Experiment Station by the Island was Forty thousand francs yearly-less than Eigat thousand dol- lars in American Money. Onut of this amount a <onsiderable portion was kept back to pay the inierest nd instalment on the mone invested in the Station. In the second place, [ wish to point out that Annual Reports covering the work of the Station were published in 1912, 1913, 1914 and 1915 and that these Reports vere well distributed through- out the Island. Copies of these Reports are practically exhausted, nevertheless I am sending the Editor of the Herald from my almost exhausted stock a copy of each of these Reports. In 1916, 1917 and 1918 Annual Reports were sent in to the Government but for some reason or other they were not printed. The Anrual Report covering the ac- tivities of the Station during 1918-1919 has recently been sent to Washington and will doubtless sonon be issued ina Bulletin of the Department of Agricul- ture, and a copy of this will be available to everybody in the Island, who is suffi- ciently interested in the work of the
