The Celebrity Golf Classic will be held from June 8-11, at the Buccaneer Hotel and the Carambola Golf Course and Club House on St. Croix. More than 20 actors, professional athletes and TV personalities will participate. The list includes: Andia Winslow who is creating a stir in the sport of golf, this year becoming the first African Ameri- can to play in an LPGA Tour event in five years and the first African American to play golf in the Ivy League; NBA At- lanta Hawks’ Joe Johnson and Salim Stoudimire; and actress on “That 70’s Show” and original Charlie’s Angel Tanya Rob- erts. “Last year we came together in an enjoyable environ- ment to bring about awareness of the Foundation for the Uni- versity of the Virgin Islands, all the while raising money for this foundation, which ultimately supports major UVI projects and scholarships,” said Joseph B. Boschulte. “The second time around we are hoping for continued support and even greater success,” continued Boschulte, UVI’s vice president See Celebrity Golf on next page Second Annual Celebrity Golf to Take Swing on St. Croix Left: Amber Roberts on the St. Croix campus rejoices after receiving her degree, a Bachelor of Arts in Business Admininstration. Right: Students on the St. Thomas campus turn their tas- sels after their degrees were conferred. Commencement ceremonies were held on May 15 on the St. Thomas campus and May 16 on the St. Croix campus. The University of the Virgin Islands’ 42nd Commencement ceremonies were ones of historic proportions. UVI graduated its first cohort of students in the Education Specialist in School Psy- chology degree program – the highest degree offered at UVI. It was the largest graduating class in five years; and the first stu- dent to earn dual Bachelor of Science degrees through a collabo- ration program between UVI and Columbia University gradu- ated. “Validate your gifts and talents – let them shine,” keynote speaker James Carmichael Renick, Ph.D., told the graduates. He said that while challenges lay ahead, the graduates owe it to themselves to do all they can to reach their highest potential. His words were echoed by St. Thomas campus commence- ment speaker Dawn Grell. “How deep is you dream?” Grell asked. “How big is your dream? Hold fast to your dreams,” she said telling the class that they are the community’s next leaders. In all, UVI conferred 353 degrees on both campuses. ‘Hold Fast to Your Dreams’ Graduates are Told dateline:UVI 2 John Brewer’s Bay St. Thomas, VI 00802 GET CONNECTED TO UVI news, activities and accomplishments at . . . www.uvi.edu dateline:UVI is a production of the UVI Public Relations Office. Boschulte’s component orga- nizes the event. Boschulte said a highlight of the four-day event is the youth clinics, which are scheduled for June 9, on the grounds of UVI’s St. Croix campus and the Carambola Golf Course. “Clearly we want the youth of St. Croix to take advantage of this opportunity to get playing and life tips from current and former NFL and NBA players,” he said. Actual tournament play is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on June 10, at the Carambola Golf Course and Club House. Individual golfers will team up with celebrities for the golf scramble. Boschulte urges golfers throughout the territory to participate. Early sign-up for golfers is $115 and on-site registration is $125. Donor Partnership Packages are also available. They range from $600 to $15,000 and include, among other things, Celebrity Golf Continued name and logo recognition, tickets to related special events, tickets to the tournament golf play and gift bags. The presenting donors of the Foundation for the Univer- sity of the Virgin Islands 2nd Annual Celebrity Golf Classic are the ICC Prosser Foundation and Innovative Communica- tions Corporation.
