Dr. Marc Boumedine Division of Science and Mathematics University of the Virgin Islands St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands 00802 Tel 340-693-1255, mboumed@uvi.edu Dr. Boumedine received his Masters degree in Computer Science in 1986 from the University of Marseille II, France, and his Ph.D degree with Honor in 1991 from University of Montpellier, France. He received a post-doctoral fellowship to pursue his research on defining heuristics to speed up test pattern generation algorithms at the University of Central Florida from 1992-1994. In July 1994 he was invited to speak at the Monterrey Institute of Technology where he was offered the position of Associate Professor in Artificial Intelligence and Member of the Artificial Intelligence Mexican Board. In August 2000, he accepted the position of Associate Professor at the University of the Virgin Islands where he applies data mining techniques to discovering environmental patterns. His research is on heuristic searching, knowledge representation, and data mining applied to environmental data. He also studies parallel data mining algorithms to speed up machine algorithms. His research emphasizes temporal and sequential data mining. Dr. Boumedine is an active member of the International Program Committees on Computational Intelligence, Control and Applications Conferences. He initiated and chaired the first IASTED Information and Knowledge Sharing Conference (2002) and co-chaired the IASTED Knowledge Sharing and Collaborative Engineering Conference (2004). He has edited and co-edited two proceedings and published more than 20 articles in his field. He has been a consultant for the World Bank to develop an environmental clearinghouse information system in Central America.
