CROIX STATION. { Dublin, Aug. 25th.—The Dail Eireann | cabinet has replied to the letter which | Mr. Lloyd George sent to Mr. De Valera | on Augus: 13th. It was in this letter that the Prime Minister informed Mr. ’ De Valera that there covld be no compro- mise on the qucstion of the right of Ire- | land to secede, and also attempted to l make el:-ar the conditions of the proposed peace seitlement. Whilst the text of the Republican leiter will not be publish- ed until an agreed joint communijue is issued, it is understood shat it makes no mencion of a Republic, but enunciates ' the principle of independence and expres- sed aversions toa res'mption of war- fare. Thus it is considerel there still i is wide opening for a continuation of the | peace negotiations, fact which has caus- | od widespread satisfaction and a gener- | feasting of optimism.
