I fully agree with the 3rd Member for Christiansted Country District. There are at present four applicationson file for telephones; which will net one hundred and forty four dol- lars per year, but it must be taken into consideration that these phones will cost five thousand five hundred and fifty francs for installation. As a precedent has 2lready been established I will vote for this Money Bill, but an effort should be made to put the telephone system on a paying basis Ist Member for Christiansted Town (Abramson) remarked: Mr. Chairman. I thiuk it is fair a d just that a telephone be irstalled ati the Bluff; it would be a great comfort for those living there ard to the community. I advocate that the Money Bill before us be favorably con- sidered by the Council. 3rd member for Frederiksted Country District (M. M. Skeoch) remarked: Mr. Chairman. I would like to call attention to the case of my neighbor, Mr. Linde- barg at Enfield Green, who complains that he has made application for a phone for sometim2 now and he has not® suc- ceeded Now we are voting for the in- stallation of telephnnes, 31 hope his appli- cation will be considered. The Acting Chairman remarked: I - have been waiting for over three years -for a telephone, and it is only a few - months ago, I succeeded in having it in- stalled. It is a great convenience. It . was decided in the Municipal Committee that this telephone system is not a pay- ing concern. I have two neighbors who applied for phones and they told me the other day that they have not had their celephones installed as yet; I guess itis on account of lack of funds. Ist Appointed Member (Henderson) remarked: Mr.- Chairman. We have another matter before tt e House that is more important than the installation of telephones; and as this matter has been fully discussed, I move that the discus- sion be closed Ist §Member for CUhristiansted Town [Abramson) seconded the member’s pro- posal. Ist Member for Frederiksted Country stt_rlct (Audersen) remarked: Mr. Chairman. 3rd Member for Frederik- sted Country District has called attention toa party who has applied for a tele- phone for more than one year, and the Actirg Chairman says it has not been installed for lack of funds;if thatis the case, would it he fair to vote for tele- phoues for ‘‘Hams Bluff”’ and not con sider the applications of others which have been pending for a longer time? It seems to me that the Telephone Mana- ger should be advised that applications should be considered in the order in which they are received. Government Secretary i(Gaffney) re- marked: Mr. O’ airman. Government has taken notes of the remarks of the Ist and 3rd Members for Frederiksted Country District and will find out the cause of not having telephones for which applicatiors have been made installed; and if it is lack of funds they will be advised and money bills ean be introduc- ed to take care of the matter. Ist Member for Frederiksted Country District (Andersen) remarked: Mr. Chairman. lam fully satisfied with the remarks of the Honorable Governsnent Secretary. The Acting Chairman !(Blackwood) re- marked: As regards my neighbors’ ap- plications, whether it is lack of funds why their telephones have not been in- stalled, I do not know, but I know they have great need for a telephone. There may be need for a doctor. 1 am glad that this matter has been brought up. 9nd Member for Christiansted Town (Canetata) remarked: Mr. Chairman. [ understand 3rd Member for Frederik- sted Country District that there were more applications for telephones; per- haps applications were made, but the Municipal Committee has not received any Money Biils 3rd Member for Frederiksted Country District (M.
