Tennessee to William Henry Hastie, Sr., and Roberta Hastie (maiden name Childs): and WHEREAS. in 1916, Mr. Hastie’s family moved to Washington, District of Columbia and Mr. Hastie attended the Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School, where he excelled as a student athlete and graduated in 1921 as the school’s Valedictorian: and WHEREAS. thereafter, Mr. Hastie attended Amherst College in Amherst. Massachusetts where he majored in mathematics; and WHEREAS, in 1925, Mr. Hastie graduated from Amherst College as the Valedictorian in his class, magna cum laude; and WHEREAS. thereafter, Mr. Hastie taught for two years at the Manual Training and Industrial School for Colored Youth in Bordentown, New Jersey; and WHEREAS. thereafter, in 1927, Mr. …
