May 28 Governor Albert Bryan Jr., on Tuesday, offered his condolences to the family and friends of the Euclyn “Pede” Prentice, a well-known jockey who is also a St. Croix native. Pede is an internationally recognized jockey who has won more than 250 North American races. He died in a car accident on Monday in Kentucky following a collision with a transit bus after midnight, according to Cincinnati’s Belterra Park. Pede’s accomplishments held significant weight in the Territory, and his loss will be felt greatly as Virgin Islanders mourn the 28-year-old’s passing. “When our community experiences great loss, the effects reverberate through the homes and touch the families of countless Virgin Islanders,” Governor Bryan said. “Through these difficult moments of sorrow, we are able to witness just how connected we are as a people.” As the Territory begins work to renovate its horse racing facilities, Governor Bryan is calling on community members and those tasked with the renovations above to contemplate Pede’s life and legacy. “His accomplishments as a young jockey are commendable and tell an inspiring story for future generations,” he said. “As Governor, I offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of  Euclyn and wish them comfort as they mourn his untimely passing.” #### TAGS No tags CATEGORIES Uncategorized Previous Next Comments are closed © 2026 Government of the United States Virgin Islands.
