Maimin distriet judge of the Virgin Islands, found an- ther surprise party wai ing for him | when he arrived at Si, Thomas Tuesday in the form of a messaze trom President Harding which said. : “You are hereby notified to ignore my letter instructing you to resume duty on th2 banch of the Virgin Islands until fur- ther notice. This message was signed by the Presi- dent. It was handed toc judge Malmin by direction of Admiral Kittelle, govern- or of the Virgin Islands, when Jjudge Mal- min and Mrs Malmin arrived Tuesday on the Naval tug Tadousae which Gov Kit- telle had ordered here to convey the Judge and Mrs. Malmin to St. Thomas. Judge Malmin was returning to the Virgin Islands for a second time under a writ from the U. S. Court of Appeals at Philadeiphia directing him ‘o resume his official daties. Also the Judge was arm- ed with a personal letter from President Harding to Gov. Kittelle instructing him to take up his judicial duties. Just what the hiteh is this time in- formation from Charlotte Amalie is- Jacking. Several weeks ago when the Judge returned to resume court he was greet>d with a Governor’s proclamation warning him not to interfere with the administration of justice in the Virgin Islands. Faced by this proclamation back the Judge went (o the Siates and again the judicial tangle was presented lln the Court of '‘Appeals at Philadeiphia which issued a second writ ordering the Judge to proceed to. his distyict and hold court, On July 16 the St. Thomas Mail Notes published notices anncuncing the opening of the District Court.of the Virgin Is- lands in Charlotte Amalie on August 1, and another callirg a conference of the bar at Christiansted, at a day and hour to he fixed, for the purpose of trying to straii};ten out the court callender. Both notices were in the name of Lucius J. M. Malmin, Judge of the District Court of the Virgin Islands of the United States Before going to St. Thomas Monday night Judge Maimin and Mis.
