ACT NO.6615 BILL NO. 25-0090 TWENTY-FIFTH LEGISLATURE OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS OF THE UNITED STATES Regular Session 2003 To name Route #79, St. Croix, the “Claude A. ‘Bennie’ Benjamin Memorial Drive” ---0--- WHEREAS, Claude A. “Bennie” Benjamin was born on November 4, 1907, on the island of St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands; and WHEREAS, at the age of 20, he traveled to New York to begin the study of music; and WHEREAS, Mr. Benjamin began his professional music career in 1938 under contract to Chappell Music Company; and WHEREAS, two years later he and his partner, Sol Marcus, had their firsi tig nit, “YT Don’t Want to Set the World on Fire,” which was made famous by the Ink Spots, and the next year they produced another hit, “When The Lights Go On Again All Over the World,” which was influenced by the blackouts during World War II; and WHEREAS, Mr. Benjamin served in the U.S. …
