THE VIRGIN ISLANDS POLICE DEPARTMENT “To Protect and Serve” Office of the Commissioner AAF Justice Complex, 5400 Veterans Drive St. Thomas, 00802 * (340) 774-2211 Administrative Services Building 45 Mars Hill, Frederiksted St. Croix, 00840 * (340) 778-2211 www.vipd.vi.gov VIPD RELEASE- 121822-351 For Immediate Media Distribution December 18, 2022 Man Dies in One Vehicle Collision on Emancipation Drive St. Croix, USVI - On December 18, 2022, at approximately 1:10 a.m., a concerned citizen reported to the 911 Emergency Call Center of a one vehicle auto accident on Emancipation Drive in the vicinity of Canebrake Apartments in Frederiksted. The person stated that there was a man trapped inside the vehicle, and as a result, the dispatcher notified the V.I.P.D, Rescue, Fire, and EMS. The preliminary investigation disclosed that a blue 2007 Acura TSX was traveling from north to south on Emancipation Drive and while approaching the Canebrake Apartments the driver lost control of his vehicle and veered off the roadway onto the eastern shoulder and collided into a tree and the fence of Canebrake Apartments on the south-eastern shoulder of the roadway. The EMT’S on the scene did not find any vital signs on the driver, and he was pronounced dead by the EMT’S at 1:27 a.m. The driver succumbed to his injuries sustained as a result of the collision. The driver was identified as 36-year-old Juan Nales Jr. by next of kin. ###
