We have been asked to mention that the Native Brass Band will give a con- cert on the Wharf this evening, weather permitting. Last night’s show of the Romance of Tarzan was well patrosized and was well worth seeing. We can safely re- commend it to the public and encourage all who did not avail themselves of the opportunity of being present at its first presentation to be sure and attend Fri- day night when it will be repeated. Ways and means having been found to do so, necessary measures have been taken towards equipping the Court room in Government’s House, as well as the court room in Frederiksted, with suitable ~ benchzs. Dubois, Mrs. Chr. Espersen, Mrs. R. D. Hagemann, Mr. D. Hamilton Jackson and Mr. Robert Skeoch. St. Thomas News FRENCH CRUISER IN PORT. The French cruiser ‘‘Jeanne d’Are’’ arrived shortly before nire o’clock this morning. She fired a salute upon com- ing into port which was returned by the ““*Vixen’’, The Jeanne d’Areis a typical French warship, having three funnels forward and three aft. This gives her the ap- pearance. when seen at a distance, of two warships instead of one. She was built before the war and has a tonnage of 11,270 tons. Her commander’s name is Spotz. It is a rather long time since we have had the pleasure of welecoming to our port a unit of the French navy and we hope the officers and men will enjoy themselves well during their two days’ stay. The Chamber of Commerce is now the topic for popular discussion, judging from last night’s mceting in the Grand Hotel, when Mr. Geo. i.evi acted as the Chair pan, and Mr. Adolph Sixto as See retary. We are pieasesd to say that judging firom the =2udience there .was manifesed a popular inter~st in the meeting, and this became more so when the secretary was given the word .He kept his audience spell-bound as he ex- plained the importance of a Chamber of Commerce and the advisability of its establishment. Mr. Gereau offer- ed a very healthv suggestion which was unanimously applauded ard adopt- ed, and Mr. Luther Stakemann in a few choice and convincing words en- dorsed the establishment of this neces- sary institution. Judge Me Cant Stew- art also spoke appreciative of the idea, giving beatiful illustrations of its import- ance through his wide experience. To this Mr. Sixto replied, thanking the hon- ourable gentleman in the name of this island. We are pleased to say that we are happy that the Chamber of Com- merce will be established and promise to give our unalloyed support to this insti- tution through the columns of this paper. —St. Thomas Bulletin, Jan. 18th.
