Joseph Sponsor Alma Francis Heyliger Co-sponsor: Ray Fonseca Be it enacted by the Legislature of the Virgin Islands: 1 SECTION 1. Title 3 Virgin Islands Code is amended in the following instances: 2 (a) In chapter 27, section 706, add subsection (g) to read as follows: 3 “(g) A retiree who re-enters the service of the government to be employed by the 4 University of the Virgin Islands, in the positions of faculty, medical education faculty, 5 executive leadership in medical education and operational capacities in the medical 6 simulation center; medical school and biomedical facility, educators in medical 7 simulation, biomedical and robotics technologies and grant writers, may continue to 8 receive an annuity from GERS for up to a period of six years while in receipt of a salary 9 2 from the University of the Virgin Islands if the retiree is enrolled in an alternative 1 retirement system. In the third year after the enactment of this section, the Legislature of 2 the Virgin Islands shall consider the economic effects of this section on the Government 3 Employee Retirement System of the Virgin Islands and the University of the Virgin 4 Islands and may allow further extensions to the term of service under this section if 5 necessary.” 6 (b) In chapter 28A, section 755, add subsection (f) to read as follows: 7 “(f) A retiree who re-enters the service of the government to be employed by the 8 University of the Virgin Islands, in the positions of faculty, medical education faculty, 9 executive leadership in medical education and operational capacities in the medical 10 simulation center; medical school and biomedical facility, educators in medical 11 simulation, biomedical and robotics technologies and grant writers, may continue to 12 receive an annuity from GERS for up to a period of six years while in receipt of salary 13 from the University of the Virgin Islands if the retiree is enrolled in an alternative 14 retirement system.
