UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS BOARD OF TRUSTEES RESOLUTION PURPOSE: To approve a Senior Reserve Officer Training Corps (SROTC) Program at the University of the Virgin Islands on the St. Croix Campus as a partnership school to host school, the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez. WHEREAS, an SROTC program at the University addresses several of the goals of the 2000-2005 Strategic Plan, including enrollment, student retention and campus identity, and WHEREAS, an SROTC program should improve the male : female ratio on the campus and will provide significant benefits to students in the form of financial incentives and job opportunities, and WHEREAS, through signed agreements with the Government of the Virgin islands, the Virgin Islands National Guard and the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez, an SROTC program will add no significant operating costs to the University, and WHEREAS, the Divisions of Social Sciences and Education and the Curriculum Committee propose the following specific criteria for the operation of the program: o AnSROTC program will be a supplemental program and …

UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS BOARD OF TRUSTEES RESOLUTION PURPOSE: To approve a Senior Reserve Officer Training Corps (SROTC) Program at the University of the Virgin Islands on the St. Croix Campus as a partnership school to host school, the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez. WHEREAS, an SROTC program at the University addresses several of the goals of the 2000-2005 Strategic Plan, including enrollment, student retention and campus identity, and WHEREAS, an SROTC program should improve the male : female ratio on the campus and will provide significant benefits to students in the form of financial incentives and job opportunities, and WHEREAS, through signed agreements with the Government of the Virgin islands, the Virgin Islands National Guard and the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez, an SROTC program will add no significant operating costs to the University, and WHEREAS, the Divisions of Social Sciences and Education and the Curriculum Committee propose the following specific criteria for the operation of the program: o AnSROTC program will be a supplemental program and students must satisfy all the general education requirements and all the requirements for the major for the degree program in which the student is matriculated o Completion of the SROTC program satisfies the two credit physical education graduation requirement of all degrees o Elective credit may be given for courses in the SROTC program WHEREAS, the faculty of the Division of Social Sciences approved this proposal on April 27, 2004, and WHEREAS, the Curriculum Committee approved this proposal on May 6, 2004, and WHEREAS, the faculty approved this proposal on May, 17, 2004, and. WHEREAS, the Cabinet approved this proposal on May, 14, 2004 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees approve an SROTC program at the University of the Virgin Islands on the St. Croix Campus as a partnership school to host school, the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez effective immediately. CERTIFICATION The undersigned does hereby certify the foregoing is a true and exact copy of the resolution of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands adopted at its meeting on June 19, 2004 and recorded in the minutes of said meeting.
