ACTNO, 8279 BILL NO. 33-0037 THIRTY-THIRD LEGISLATURE OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS Regular Session 2020 An Act requiring the Office of the Governor to establish an interagency committee to develop a stormwater management plan for the benefit of agriculture and to seek technical support and assistance from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the U.S. Geological Survey, and for the Government of the Virgin Islands to submit a request for funding to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or other appropriate federal department or agency for adequate funds to execute and maintain the stormwater management plan ---0--- WHEREAS, the existing ponds in the Territory suffer from vegetation overgrowth, siltation and lack of maintenance, which impedes the capture of stormwater runoff; WHEREAS, studies indicate that recent flood events often exceeded the mapped floodplains; WHEREAS, farmers in the Territory are in desperate need of water; WHEREAS, the rehabilitation of the ponds in the Territory is designed to capture and capitalize on stormwater runoff; and WHEREAS, the …
