To address fti pfSSSfics Sf these compounds, remediation activities are expected to commence in August 1094, and proceed for an undefined period of time, The proposed ground-water remediation program will involve the extraction of ground water from on-slte monitoring/recovery wells. Extracted ground water will be treated on site using an existing air stripper tower and granular activated carbon (GAG) canisters. Treatment operations are expected to reduce conoeniiatlons of volatile organic compounds in extracted ground water (i.e., system effluent) to Federal Maximum Contaminant Levels prior to discharging to the adfacent sanitary sewer. Discharge of system effluent will be conducted consistent with water quality criteria established by Temporary Discharge Permit T 000001*94, issued to Esso Standard Oil Company (Puerto Rico} on February 24. f994 and set to expire in May 1994. Although requested water quality criteria will not deviate from Permit 000001-94, parameters related to volume, rate of discharge and length ol operation will facilitate a permanent, rather than a temporary, permit In preparation of system operation, BB&L request* from you a detailed list of atl permits and notifications that would be required by the Government of the U.S. Virgin Islands for operation of the treatment unit. Included with this list, please identity all supporting InfonYtatlan and documentation (I.e.. system specifications, effluent calculations, eto.) that would be required for review. Syracuse.
