Government of the Virgin Islands of the United States DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES Press Contact: Ryan Nugent Director of Communications Phone: (340) 725-4924 ryan.nugent@dhs.vi.gov For Immediate Release: October 1, 2025 IMPORTANT UPDATE: U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – Department of Human Services announces SNAP Benefits Increase effective October 1, 2025 U.S. Virgin Islands - The Department of Human Services (VIDHS) Division Family Assistance (DFA), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) advises the public that, effective October 1, 2025, households receiving SNAP benefits—formerly known as Food Stamps—will see an increase in their monthly allotments. SNAP provides benefits to eligible low-income individuals and households. Each year, at the beginning of the federal fiscal year, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) adjusts the SNAP maximum allotments, deductions, and income eligibility requirements. The exact increase will vary depending on household size. The income limit for households to qualify for SNAP benefits has increased to 175% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines (FPIGs). This change does not affect reporting rules, which remain based on the 130% FPIG threshold. Households receiving Categorical Eligibility (CATEL) must still notify DHS if their total gross income rises above 130% of the federal poverty level. The U.S. Virgin Islands continues to operate under Simplified Reporting Requirements. The attached chart shows the updated benefit amounts by household size. (Review the notice of decision your household received to verify the gross monthly income used to certify your household). Do this for each household member over the age of 18. Then total the income for all household members and compare it to the table above for your household size. Use the household size that you had when you applied for benefits.  If your household’s income has increased for your household size from what it was at the time of certification, you must report the increase. You must report it to the SNAP office within ten (10) days after the end of the month.  You will need to provide pay stubs and/or proof of the income change(s).  The ONLY other change your household is required to report is, if any member of the SNAP household received a single winning of $4,500 or greater from lottery or gambling winnings. Reporting other changes is optional, however households are encouraged to report any changes that the household believe would increase their household’s SNAP benefits.  Your household will be notified via a notice of decision if the reported change(s) increased or decreased the household benefits. HOUSEHOLDS RECEIVING CASH ASSISTANCE ARE REQUIRED TO REPORT ALL CHANGES BY THE 10TH DAY OF THE FOLLOWING MONTH THAT THE CHANGE OCCURRED.
