2022-2025 Strategic Plan UVI Libraries UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS 1 I. Six Enduring Goals that reinforce the value of the libraries to the University community and beyond. 1. Dynamic Physical and Virtual Spaces II.Mission, Vision, and Values that underpin key goals of research, learning, and shared services. Mission: Provide high quality resources and services that support student learning, inspire creativity and the construction of new knowledge. Vision: UVI Libraries will be known as an innovative research library: the intellectual hub of UVI, critical to student success and research conducted at all levels. Values: Collaboration, innovation, integrity, and personalized service; and agility through ongoing experimentation and assessment. Taken together, the mission, vision, and values enrich learning, advance services, and support research. 2 Six Enduring Goals 1. Quality Services that Support Student Learning UVI Libraries will collaborate with faculty to develop students’ information and data fluency. Students will graduate with the ability to find, critically examine, and create information resources, both for the workplace and in their day-to-day lives.  Instruction: Use pedagogical best practices to deliver scalable information, data, and technology instruction that is integrated into the curriculum.  Finding Information: Assist students to find the information resources they need for success.  Access to Technology: Connect students with technology that meets their needs while also providing exposure to emerging technologies. 2. Scholarly Sources that Support Student and Faculty Research UVI Libraries will be the trusted provider of scholarly information, including published scholarship and research data.  Collections: Develop, manage, and provide access to collections in support of teaching, learning, and research.  Special Collections & Archives: Develop unique special collections that promote scholarship, support the curriculum, and bring distinction to UVI.  UVI scholarship: Manage, preserve, and make available the scholarship produced at UVI. 3. Share Expertise that Supports Student and Faculty Research UVI Libraries will share its expertise in data and information resources to support faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates throughout their research.  Support Innovation: Increase capacity to support data services and digital scholarship.  Information Expertise: Provide expertise in information discovery and management required of a research university.  Research Support Services: Implement emerging and innovative technologies to support graduate research.  Open Access Strategy: Articulate our strategy and support infrastructure that facilitates the open sharing of scholarship, data, and educational materials.  Promote Research: Provide a suite of services to faculty which champions their research accomplishments and facilitates interdisciplinary conversations. 3 4. Community Engagement/Partnerships UVI Libraries will engage with the larger community through special collections, programming, and promotion of UVI faculty and student research.  Promotion: Develop and utilize an integrated marketing strategy to build the UVI Libraries brand in the community. Provide and support online tools that promote research accomplishments at UVI.  Events: Host lectures and presentations, both on campus, in the community and virtually, that promote UVI scholarship and highlight the role of the UVI Libraries.  School Partnerships: Increase partnerships with local school districts to develop student research skills and improve the educational pipeline in the region.  Research Support Services: Provide access to print collection and both virtual and physical librarian support. 5. Inclusive and Diverse Culture The University Libraries will be a stimulating and supportive learning organization with a diverse and engaged team.  Development: Encourage cross-training, deep-dives, temporary assignments, and other initiatives to facilitate and support employee development and career exploration.  Innovation: Encourage and recognize employee innovation and experimentation.  Diversity: Develop and/or participate in programs that increase the diversity of our team. 6. Physical and Virtual Spaces The University Libraries will create dynamic physical and virtual spaces in support of its strategic priorities.  Physical Space: Prioritize indoor and outdoor library space planning and facilitate donor engagement.  Virtual Space: Through best practices, user engagement, and ongoing assessment, optimize the library website and discovery systems.  Exhibits: Highlight special collections and digitized content through improved virtual and physical exhibits.
