RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS Purpose: To Amend the Orientation Process for New Members of the UVI Board of Trustees to include a Board Mentorship Program. WHEREAS, the University of the Virgin Islands Board of Trustees is committed to improving the performance and effectiveness of the Board; and WHEREAS, on June 19, 2004, the Board approved the process for new members of the Board of Trustees to receive an orientation to the Board; and WHEREAS, at the Association of Governing Boards Workshop held for the Board of Trustees on March 4, 2016, five (5) Action Plan Items were developed and approved by the Board; and WHEREAS, one of the items was for the Board to develop a Board Mentorship program; and WHEREAS, it is the practice at colleges and universities whereby each new member of the board of trustees is paired with an experienced trustee who serves as a mentor during the new member’s first year on the board; and WHEREAS, on May 20, 2016, the Governance Committee developed and approved language for insertion into the current Orientation Process …

RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS Purpose: To Amend the Orientation Process for New Members of the UVI Board of Trustees to include a Board Mentorship Program. WHEREAS, the University of the Virgin Islands Board of Trustees is committed to improving the performance and effectiveness of the Board; and WHEREAS, on June 19, 2004, the Board approved the process for new members of the Board of Trustees to receive an orientation to the Board; and WHEREAS, at the Association of Governing Boards Workshop held for the Board of Trustees on March 4, 2016, five (5) Action Plan Items were developed and approved by the Board; and WHEREAS, one of the items was for the Board to develop a Board Mentorship program; and WHEREAS, it is the practice at colleges and universities whereby each new member of the board of trustees is paired with an experienced trustee who serves as a mentor during the new member’s first year on the board; and WHEREAS, on May 20, 2016, the Governance Committee developed and approved language for insertion into the current Orientation Process for New Members of the Board; and WHEREAS, insertion of this language would assist the Chairman of the Board with the appointment of mentors with new trustees; and WHEREAS, Committee members agreed that inserting this language would support the development of a Board Mentorship program for the Board of Trustees; and WHEREAS, the inserted language would state: “As a part of the orientation process, current sitting members of the Board of Trustees, in good standing pursuant to the Statement of Expectations established for members of the Board of Trustees, may be appointed by the Board Chairman to serve as mentors to newly appointed Trustees to assist in their transition period as new members of the UVI Board”. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY THAT: 1. The amendment to the Orientation Process for New Members of the Board as outlined above be inserted in the second paragraph of the document is hereby approved. 2. The President is authorized to take such action as is necessary to implement this resolution. 3. This resolution shall become effective June 4, 2016. CERTIFICATION The undersigned hereby certifies that the foregoing is a true and exact copy of a resolution of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands and adopted at its meeting on Saturday, June 4, 2016, as recorded in the minutes of the said meeting.
