O’Hagan) | attended the meeting. | After prayers had been said the | Chairman (Merwin) remarked: Honor- able Members the proceedings for the last meeting have been published in | the “'St. Croix Avis”’ and if members have no objection -1 will consider them tacitly adopted. | There- was no objection, the Chair- man deelared the minutes as published tacitly adopted. The Chairman further remarked. Since the last meeting of the Council I have received no communications from (Government to read to the Counecil. Be it enacted by the Colonial Council l for St. Croix in Session assembled: | That the unexpended balance . of funds appro;i]ma,ted under main- | tenance for the department of . NOLL. f 2nd Appointed Member. = ond Appointed Member (Noll) in in- troducing the Resolution said it was in- troduced by him at request of the !les- patching Secretary so as to o away with the custom of expending money appro- priated under maintenance for equip- ment and recommend that the Resolution be furthered and passed. It was put to the vote and carried that the Resolution be furthered. The Chairman then put to the vote whether the Resolution should be adop- ted at one discussion. . 10 members voted for; 1 mem-ber did not vote. Despateching Secretary (O’Hagan) re- marked: Mr. Chairman. As stated by the member who introduced the bili, these various resolutions introduced to- day are merely to preserve the system of accounting. If the books ordered for the Division of Fublie Instruction are to be charged to maintenarce it would aff:ct the classification, and this bill is introduced merely to preserve the eclassification of material which has been in effect in the past, No one requested the word further- the Secretary (Cansgata) read the Re- solution and the Chairman put same to the vote. 10 members voted for; 1 member d&id not vote. [To be continued]. The Native Brass Band rendered a public concert last night which was at- tended by a large gathering. In makiag its tramp afterwards, the Band halted at the residence of Conunciiman Abram- son, and serenaded him in: a‘know- ledgement of his efforts in securing the- organization the subsidy recently granted by-the Colonial Council. The theatre is offering an exhibition this evening which ought to draw a large audience jndging from the suc- cess achieved by ‘'The Nature Girl’”’ in Frederiksted where it was presented on two successive nights with creating a great sensation on both oceasions. We believe everybody will enjoy this show. TELEGRAMS ST. CROIX STATIUN. Washington, Aug. 11th.—President Wilson today refused to send the Senate a copy of General Uless letter concern- ing the Shantung settlement on the ground that it contained confidential re- ferences and other Govts. reply to the Senate resclution asking for information regarding anv treaties a purporting to have been made by Japan and Germany during the progress of the great war. President Wilson said he knew of no such negotiations though he heard ru- mours concerning them. The President also informed the Senate in lesponse to another resolution that he was happy to say he had no memorandum with refer- ence to any attempt of the Japanese del- egates &t Paris to intimidate the Chinese peace delegates. ' Montreal, Aug. 11th.—Telegraph and telephone communication throughout the United States aad eastern Nevada seri- ously interrupted and in many cases completely paralized shortly after noon today by an aurora borealis electrical phenomenon, put out of eommission
