YESTERDAY'S RACKS Th= horse nnd donkey races scheduled to ta<e place at Sugar Estate yesterday afternoon, came off as announced, and was witnessed by quite a crowa oi eager spectators. The afternoon being one of the iortni~btly holidays, crowds from an early hour began to assemble. In all, there wore to have been eight races; but there were only six. as.neither the fifth, (a foot-race,) and sixth races (Pepoer Gray and Johnnie,) were run. In the Ist race, a mile race with a S3O stake, Danieisea’s ''‘Smithy’’ defeated Berétta’s ‘‘Roamer’’. Much interest was manifested in this race, as both horses and owners were favorites, being the winners of former prizes. But from the onset the powerful ‘‘Smithy’’ took an easy lead, which condition of things was not improved 'with ‘‘Roamer’’ bolt- ing twice. In the 2nd race of mile and a stake of sls, run between J. Petersen’s ‘‘Hope- less’’ and A Fleming’s ‘‘Liady Princess’’, the latter won. - I'nen rollowed another one mile race, with a stake of $25, between Danielsen’s ““Hopeful’” and Hendrick’s ‘‘Pepper Grey,”” in which, however, though battling bravely, the former was de- feated. I'nen came the most amusing race of all, therdonkey race. This contest was entered by 5 animals, belonging respec- tively to Lanielsen, Fleming and Laßeet. St. Thomas Mail Notes. Sept. 25th. . 4 STORY STRUCTURE FCR BANK “F NCVA SCOTIA. Pians have been approved for the eree- tion of a modern banking and office build- ing at the Corner of San Justo and Te- tuan streets for the Bank o. Nova Scotia. Just how sool work is to be commenced has not been decided but the present building on rhis site has been vacated and it is planned to prepare-t.e site for construetion as soon as possible. The building will be four story rein- forced concrete structure the lower floor of which will be entirely occupied by the bank. The three upper floors will be constructed for offices. There will be nine or ten offices on. each floor. Sever- al months ago.the Pank of Nova -Seotia came into possessio:s of the property which it had been ¢ cupying for many years and at.once con..ideration was given to the kind of building that was to be erected. At first thére was some doubt as to whether the building would be planned solely for bankinZ purposes or ¢ No. 225 whether additional floors would be added o provide office space for renting pur- poses. i Plan for the new structure, which were prepared by Antonin Nechodoma, haves just been approved by the bank officers and authority given for eonstruction wirk, The banking rooms on the firs: floor, according to present plans, aill possible be more spacious and attraétive than anything in Po.to Rien. CITRUS CROP ESTIMATE. The Citrus crop which is n»w com- mencin¢ to be harvested is esiimated at little more than 1,000,000 k- os by (‘apt. E. B. Lessesne of the Fiiit Ex- change.
