Title 18 Virgin Islands Code, section 232 is amended by striking the 2 section and adding a new section 232 as follows: 3 “§ 232. Primary elections 4 Party primary elections must be held in the Virgin Islands on the first Saturday of August 5 for the purpose of choosing candidates for nomination to public offices to be voted on for the 6 ensuing general election. Primary elections must be conducted by the Virgin Islands Elections 7 System. Political parties may opt out of the primary election and instead nominate candidates 8 for public offices through a process of their choosing. …

Not later than January 30, political 9 parties shall notify the Supervisor of Elections of the process it will use to nominate candidates 10 for public offices.
