June 20 U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — The U.S. Department of the Interior has awarded $2,063,666 in Capital Improvement Project (CIP) funding for Fiscal Year 2025 to the Government of the U.S. Virgin Islands, delivering a significant boost to essential public service and infrastructure projects throughout the territory. This federal investment, administered by the Office of Insular Affairs, supports a range of initiatives that directly benefit Virgin Islands residents by enhancing public health, safety, and quality of life. In a letter to Gov. Albert Bryan Jr., Deputy Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs Angel Demapan outlined the allocation of funds across several high-priority projects: $500,000 to the Department of Public Works for St. John restroom renovations, improving sanitation and public access. $484,690 to the Schneider Regional Medical Center (SRMC) for the Oxygen Generator project, strengthening the hospital’s capacity to deliver lifesaving care. $414,100 to the Department of Human Services (DHS) for mold remediation at the Knud Hansen Complex, ensuring a safe environment for staff and clients. $350,000 to DHS to purchase new Meals on Wheels vehicles, expanding service to the territory’s most vulnerable seniors. $184,876 to DHS to improve IT infrastructure, supporting more efficient delivery of social services. $130,000 to DHS for critical repairs at the Queen Louise Home for the Aged, enhancing living conditions for elderly residents. In addition to this year’s new funding, the Department of the Interior approved the redirection of $500,000 in prior-year funds for the SRMC Interventional Cardiology Catheterization Suite project, bolstering access to advanced cardiovascular care in the territory. “This funding represents an important investment in the health, safety, and well-being of the people of the Virgin Islands,” said Governor Albert Bryan Jr. “We thank the U.S. Department of the Interior and the Office of Insular Affairs for recognizing our infrastructure priorities and continuing to support our efforts to modernize facilities, improve public health, and serve our most vulnerable populations.” The awarded funds will be administered by the Office of Management and Budget in partnership with respective government departments and agencies, ensuring timely execution of these projects in alignment with the territory’s capital improvement goals.
