Act No. 6293 (BILL NO. 23-0077) (Approved September 14, 1999) To amend Title 1, Chapter 15, Section 253, Virgin Islands Code, relating to the definitions of "government agency" and "meeting" and for related purposes WHEREAS, the Legislature enacted the "Government in the Sunshine Act" to ensure that the public receives the fullest information practicable regarding the decision-making process of the Government, while at the same time, protecting the ability of the Government to carry out its responsibilities; and WHEREAS, the Legislature, in enacting the Government in the Sunshine Act, intended only the sessions of the Legislature and all of its Standing Committees to be subject to the provisions of the Act; and WHEREAS, the Legislature has gone far beyond its statutory mandate in providing the public, including the press, with information regarding its decision making, by voluntarily broadcasting and televising all legislative sessions and meetings of Standing Committees and by freely granting interviews to the press; and WHEREAS, to promote the public interest and to carry out the p …
