Select menu choices by typing the appropriate letter or clicking on your command of choice. If a menu item is grayed out, circumstances preclude that choice. New Documents: There are a variety of ways to begin working with documents. The easiest is to press the document control button on the speed bar which presents you with the Works Startup screen. Press the button to the middle right associated with the document type you wish to create. Press the Open button on the right to get existing documents, proper path and filename must be specified. Save As allows you to save the file with a different name and/or to a different location. Quit Works: Select Exit from the File menu. Print: Always save your document before printing; Preview from the Print menu. Select Print from the Print menu. Editting Select text: (Note: most of the following commands require text to be selected) Hold the shift button while using arrow keys. Point, click and drag. Double click on a word. Click on the space to the left of a line. Erase Text Erase to the left of the text insertion bar with Backspace. Delete erases to the right of the bar. Select text then press Delete. Copy or Move Selected Text Click and drag to move new location. Hold down the Control key to move. [C] to copy; [X] to cut; [V] to paste in a new spot Use the Edit menu commands. Formatting There are three ways to make a selection bold. Use Bold from the Format menu. Use the bold button on the speed bar. There are three ways to underline a selection: Use Underline from the Format menu. Use the underline button on the speed bar. Adjust font size and font name by selecting the text and using the speed bar or select Font and Style from the Format menu. There are four kinds of line justification. Apply these formats by either pressing the appropriate key while on the line (or paragraph) or selecting from the Format menu. Left A straight Left margin (ragged right) Right A straight Right margin (ragged left) Full Both margins straight (no button) Center Each line Centered Additional Commands Adjust margins by selecting Page Setup from the File menu. Create a footnote by selecting Footnote from the Insert menu. Select Footnote from the View menu to view/not view the footnote window. Headers and Footers appear at the top and bottom of all pages and are defined under the View menu. Note that a Header/Footer on the first page is optional. Special codes are Left &L; Center &C; Right &R and page number &P. I.E. For a header with Your Name at left; The Title at the center and the pare number on right, type &Lyour Name&CThe Title&R&P Spell Check: Select the Spell selection from the Options menu. Thesaurus: Select the Thesaurus selection from the Options menu. Add Tables and Charts by copying and pasting from the spreadsheat section.
