BUREAU OF INFORMATION AT WASHINGTON. To The Public: It is the wish of the rresident that visitors to the seat of Government shall have every opportunity to get tuli information concerning all governmental departments. It is especially his desire that al! thos> who come to Washington to transact business with any depart- ment or hureau of the Government may quickiy be advised as to the exact loca- tion and means of reaching the particu- lar department or bureau in which may be centered the business which they de- sire to transact. For this purpose there has been es:ab- lished a Bureau of Information on the ground floor of the Pest Office Depart- ment Building, located on ennsyivania Avenue at Twelfth Street, which is in charge oi competent people who will definitely answer queries of this charac- ter. | The public is advised of this arrange- ment and invited to make use of the facility. As eaily as 7 o’clock this morhing there was a daring attempt at burglary at the house of the widow, Mrs. Hebecca Robies, who resides in the Garden. It appears that a young man entered the premises from the rear, and was just on the point of entering the domi cile, when luckily, necighbours seeing him, gave the outery. Needless to say, the scamp put as much distance be- tween himself and the seat of his con- templated robbery in asshort time as pos- stble. —St. Thomas)Mail Notes, May 31st. MEMORIAL DAY Yesterday, Memorial Day, dedicated to fallen soldiers and sailors, passed away—apart from a short Memorial Service held at 6 a. m. at the Anglican Church, wherz the Rector, the Rev Father Griffiths paid a befitting tribuie to the dead, and which sevvice was at- tended by Governor Kittelle and the firing of guns by a squad of marines at the Eastern Cemetery at 9 o’clock, and that of minute guns at midday—in a very quiet and dull manner. All places of business. of course, were closed, and flags placed at half-mast from some of the buildings, otherwise, the usual exer- cises, consisting of parades to the ceme- teries by the school children. the scat- tering of flowers on the waves, and the various other exercises that marked pre- vious occasions, were sadly missing. Instead, there were base-bail games, picnics and outings in the country. Let us W@Pe in future, that if the dayis to be made a holiday, for the purpose of rever- ing the dead that some trouble will be taken to have appropriate exercises befit- ting the occasion undertaken. —lbid. The_U. S. S. '*Vixen”’ which for the past few weeks has been undergoing repairs, was floated from dock yester- day morning. —St. Thomas Mail Notes, June Ist. Many copions and refreshing showers fell yesterday, replenishing low cisterns, cooling the gereral atmosphere, and saturating and nourishing the plants. —lbid. The term of service of the members of the St. Thomas Naval Band expired yes- terday. We are glad to say that the re- - cord of the boys has heen a fine one much to the satisfaction of the authori.
