Virgin Islands Writing Project 2013 Invitational Summer Institute Institute Starts: June 24, 2013 Institute Ends: July 17, 2013 Sessions Run: Monday to Friday Sessions Meet: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Are you a teacher who wants to:  Share strategies for teaching writing to culturally and linguistically diverse students?  Inform teaching practice with theory?  Connect reading, writing and research?  Explore concepts of writing to learn?  Use writing portfolios and other authentic assessment strategies?  Discover and develop your potential as a writer?  Explore strategies for addressing the Creole issue in the Virgin Islands?  Use writing across the curriculum?  Share your experiences and expertise with others?  Assume a leadership role in professional development in the teaching of writing? Then this institute is for you. The Invitational Summer Institute is sponsored by the Virgin Islands Writing Project (VIWP) and is funded by the National Writing Project, the Virgin Islands Department of Education, and the University of the Virgin Islands. Letter(s)  Enclose a letter of recommendation from your administrator or department chair.  Include a letter from the principal that should you be selected, you would be released on May 17 to participate in a pre-institute retreat. Note that  The retreat is scheduled for May 17.  The VIWP will cover transportation and accommodation. Interview  Each applicant will be invited to a group interview in April.  Each applicant will be notified about acceptance no later than April 30.
