He was as unerring in his fielding as ever, while his kicking was as sound as in his best days. London, Feb. 13th- 'he statement was made in the House of Commons on Saturday that in spite of all pro- tests it has bpeen definitely decided to disband tne first Deinster Regiment, the Royal Canadians, together with five other ‘Souih Irish Units. In making this arnouncement the Secretary of State for the war said that he deeply regretted that the Government had been conpetled 1o take ihis st=p and disband these regiments which had done su:zh splendid work for the Empire in all parts of the world and had each ling and distinguished records. Strong represen- tations were made to the Government that the Leinst be regained becausc of their Canadian origin, but influential as were the prepon2nts cf thes: lequests,. they made no differcnce. Dublin, Feb. 18th.—~The evacuztion of the British troops and other military forces from Dublin was unexpectedly suspended today. The sailing of the steamers due 1o leave for Holyhead, liv- erpool, with contingents on hoard was cincelled. It wa: thought the suspension might be due to the eve:ts in Ulster, Officials at military general headquarters said they were unable to give any infor mation on the cubjeer, while Dublin Cas- tle officiais stated that they nad nothing to do with the evacuation. Dublin, Feb. 13th.——An armed guard of the Irish Republican army was posted in the offices of the Freeman’s Journal last night to protect the staff from antj- cipated attacks by republicans who were cfferded by the publication of a ecartcon reflecyyng, on Eanion De Valeira and Er- ¢kin CLilders. It was raid that an un suvecessful attempt had been made to kidnap the proprietor of the paper. Halifax, N. S.,Feb 13th.—The success of the regular passenger service inaugu- rated by the steamer ‘‘Sicilian’’ last De- cember between St. John, Boston, Hava- na and Kingston, Jamacia, has been such that the Caradian Pacific is now placing its large cargoship the ‘‘Montezuma’’ in service between these ports. These despatehes add that it is understood that constables will be armed with military rifles and ammu- nition.
