Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the provisions of sections 9 to 18, inclusive, of the Act entitled “An Act making appropriations for the construction, repair, and preservation of cer- tain public works on rivers and harbors, and for other purposes,” approved March 3, 1899, are hereby made applicable to the Virgin Islands and the navigable waters thereof. Approved, July 1, 1932. [CHAPTER 370.] AN ACT To extend certain provisions of the River and Harbor Act of March 3, 1899, to the Virgin Islands. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the provisions of sections 9 to 18, inclusive, of the Act entitled “An Act making appropriations for the construction, repair, and preservation of cer- tain public works on rivers and harbors, and for other purposes,” approved March 3, 1899, are hereby made applicable to the Virgin Islands and the navigable waters thereof. Sec . 2. That violations of the provisions of this Act may be prose- cuted in the District Court of the Virgin Islands of the United States, and jurisdiction is hereby vested in said court to try and determine such causes. Approved, July 1, 1932. [CHAPTER 389.] AN ACT To provide for the appointment of an acting secretary of the Territory of Hawaii during the absence or illness of the secretary. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That section 69 of the Act entitled “An Act to provide a government for the Territory of Hawaii,” approved April 30, 1900 (U. S. C., title 48, sec. 534), is amended by adding at the end thereof a new paragraph to read as follows: “ The secretary may, with the approval of the governor, designate some other officer of the government of the Territory of Hawaii to act as secretary during his temporary absence or during his illness. Such designation and approval shall be in writing and shall be filed in the office of the governor, and a copy thereof, certified by the governor, shall be filed in the office of the Secretary of the Interior of the United States. Such person so designated shall, during the temporary absence or illness of the secretary, be known as the acting secretary of the Territory of Hawaii, and shall have and exercise all the powers and duties of the secretary, except those provided for by section 70 of this Act (U. S. C., title 48, sec. 535). Such acting secretary shall serve without additional compensation, but the secre- tary shall be responsible and liable on his official bond for all acts done by the acting secretary in the performance of his duties as acting secretary.” Approved, July 2, 1932. h 565 Approval of Con- gress.
