Epsomdowns, Eagz, June 4th-—The Earl of Derby’s “"Sansovino,’”’” by Sywn- 2ord out of Gondolette, won the Derby England’s classic turf event, run here tooay Viscount Aster’s ''St. Germane’ by Semyntord, out of Hamoaze, was second. and Sonmervilie Tattersai’s “Hurstwood,”’ by Gay Crusader, out of Breasdate, third, Twenty seven horses ran. The uncertainty over the possible winner was greater than ever this morn- ing and amateur betters were warned by the sport writers not to back any horse without being prepared to lose their movey. The selections of the Tipsters differed widely and all tied a string to their choices. The doubtful outcome of the race was emphasized by an over- night switeh in the betting odds, the Earl of Derby’s *‘Sansovino’’ becoming the favourite at 7 to 1 against H. H. Aga Khan's Diophon dropping to second place at 8 to 1, and Lord Woolavington’s Tom Pinch being quoted third at 10 to 1.
