In St. Thomas there is a stock of sugar stored which has been purchased about two to one and a half years ago when the sugar price was low and probably at as low a figure as six cents per pound, this stock. the Food Commission of St. Thomas is able to control, and has fixed the selling prices at those advertised and published; wilz: 11, 12 and 13 cents retail. St. Croix not having any cabpitalist among the merchant class has had no stnck of sugar on hand. and consequer (- ly is dependent on this year’s production for its'suppiyv. The present marke. price of sugar is about 13c..in New York, deducting two cents per pound for freig ht, export duty and otker charges wiil give Ille. per: pound U. S.
