The Acting Chairman asked 3rd M m- ber for Christiansted Country Distr,'t (Robt. W. Skeoch) to act as Secretary ! the Council until the officials of the Couu- cil were appointed. Accordingly the member took the seat. The following prayers were offered by the Chaplain, Rev. W. Allen: Almighty God, Thou who dost guide the affairs of men, and from whom cometh all wisdom, guide and direct we pray Thee this Council and give to its members the needed wisdom that in all their deliberations they may seek the welfare of this people and thy glory. We ask for Jesus’ sake. Sir:— In accord>nce with the provisions of paragrap” 36 of the Cnlonial Law, the following dates are hereby fixed for the Colonial Council for the Municipality of St. Croix to assemble for ordinary meet- ings during the coming vear: Monday, 20 August, 1923, 1.00 p m., Monday, 5 October, 1923, 1 00 p.m , Monday, 17 December, 1923, 1.00 p.m., Monday, 18 February, 1924, 1.00 p.m.. It is brought to your notice that the reference provides for the election of a Cotton Commission annually. 92 The Commission now serving was elected at the meeting of the Colonial Council held on June 19, 1922, and is composed of the following named gen- tlemen : Mr. W. To : Chairman of the Colonial Coun- gfil’lMunicipality of St. Croix, Subject: Election of two men by the ‘; Colonial Council to assist Gov- ernment in the distribution of legacies. 1. Itis requested that you cause to be elected, at the next meeting of the Colo- nial Council, two men to assist Govern: mant in the distribution of the foliowing legacies, in accordance with the charters of foundation for the legacies: Prince Valdemar’s Wedding Memorial Fund. King Christian the Ninth & Queen Louise’s Golden Wedding Memorial Fund. Crown Prince Frederik & Crown Prin- cess Louise’s Silver Wedding Me morial Fund, and Former Controller of Custons and Es- tate Owner in St. Croix Peter Corneli- us Birch and Wife Rosaline Atoin- ette, born Cantor’s, Jegacy. To : The Chairman of the Colonial Couneil, Municipality of St. Croix, V. L. Subject: Appointment of Jury Commis- sioneur. Reference: Title V, Chapter 12, Section 4. of the Code of Laws for Bt Lroix, 1.- The reference requires the Coloni- al Council annually to arpoint a Jury Commissioner. The present appointee of Council 1s Mr. K. Henderson. 9 It is requested that Council be asked to appoint someone for this office. C. E. RAPPOLEE. The Acting Chairman remarked: This matter is aiso on the order of the day. ® (70 be concluded.) OFFICIAL NOTES. Captain Arthur E. Lindborg, who has been serving as senior Assistant Direc- tor of Education in Saint Croix, has been appointed Director of Education for the Virgin Islands yiee Daniel R. Nase, who has resigned effective 30 June 1923. Mr. Nase has been Director of Educa- tion for over three years, and has done the buik of the pioneer work in erganiz- ing the school system since the islands have been under the United States flag. It 1s Mr. Nase’s intention to continue his studies in the University of Chicage. The resignation of Mr. H. R. Hilsabeck as Assistant Director of FEducation forg Saint Thomas has been accepted with regret by the Governor.
