November 17, 2023 Honorable Carla Joseph Chairperson, Committee on Government Operations, Veteran’s Affairs & Consumer Protection 35th Legislature of the Virgin Islands Capitol Building St. Thomas, VI 00802 RE: BILL NO. 35-0109 – KENDALL EMANUEL GEORGE DRIVE LEGISLATION Dear Senator Joseph: Thank you for the opportunity to review and comment on the proposed legislation to posthumously name Route 107 from Coral Bay to Lameshur Bay, St. John the “Kendall Emanuel George Drive” and to appropriate $10,000 to the Department for the appropriate signage. Unfortunately, I am unavailable to attend the hearing due to previously scheduled engagements. The Department has no objections to the naming of the above-mentioned road in the name of Corporal Kendall Emanuel George. I believe naming roads after prominent Virgin Islanders serves to teach current and future generations of their significant contributions, both locally and abroad, and to perpetually honor them. While I cannot speak to the funding source, the amount appropriated for signage should be sufficient. …
