St. Thomas News ' ——— § The Secretary of the Navy and Party in St. Tho nas. Sunday morning, shortly after 7. A. M. the U. S. S. ‘‘Henderson’’ entered port, bearing the distinguisked guests whose visit had been previously announced and was anxiously awaited. His Excellency, the Governor called on the Secretary after colors had been hoisted, returning from the ship 9.45. At 10 o’clock, the Hon. Edwin Denby, accompanied by his military aides and Admirals Coontz, Reynolds and Pratt landed on the Kings Wharf, where they ware received by the Governor and all the naval officers on duty herc. A detachment of marines formed a guard of honor, and the naval band was also in attendance. The salut2, appropriate to his rank was fired by the battery. After a profase shaking of hands, the Sccre- tary entered the Governor’s automobile, and together with the Governor was taken to the Executive mansion. At 2. P. M. the Hoo. Secretary and Congressional Party met the Councils of St. Croix, St. Thomas & St. John in joint session. Many of the newspapermen who are accompanying the party were present. Che meeting was ealled to order by the Governor, who stated its object, and re- quested the Chairman of the St. Thomas- St. John Council to eall the roll and re- quest thg members to rise on hearing their names, so tbat they could be identi- fied by the visitors. A similar request was made 0 Chairman Merwin, of the St. Croix Council, and in both caces ac- ceeded to. This formality being over, Chairman Thi:le, of St. Thomas & St. John delivered a short address of wel- come, and 1t having been previously agreed by the members of St. Thom- as that their colleagues across the chan- nel sheould take precederce, as an act of courtesy, the Chairman of the St. Oroix Council introduced his report with some appropriate remarks and requested his secretary to read the document. This gave rise to many questions being asked, especially on the subject of Water, one of the principal features of the mention- ed report these questions were however satisfactorily answered and exp!ained by tte Chairman and Member Andersen principally. On St. Croix resting her case tempora- rily, the Chairman of the St. Thomas St. John conceded the word to Mr. €. Cor- neiro, who there and then appeared as a representative of the St. Thomas Harbor Board, and read the Memorandum which that institut on had prepared for preseg- tation to the Hon.
