BILL NO. 32-0146 THIRTY-SECOND LEGISLATURE OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS Regular Session 2018 An Act honoring and commending Irvin “Brownie” Brown, Sr. for his significant contributions to the culture and music of the Virgin Islands by renaming the portion of General Gade, which runs from the intersection of Veterans Drive up to the intersection of Silke Gade “The Irvin “Brownie” Brown, Sr. Street” ---Q--- WHEREAS, Irvin “Brownie” Brown, Sr. was born on St. Thomas, June 2, 1935, to the union of Eunah and James Brown; and WHEREAS, Brownie grew up on Lefkoi Strade #2, Savan; and WHEREAS, in 1948, after the sudden death of his father, Brownie assumed the role of “man-of-the-house,” taking care of his mother and three sisters: Delta, Delphine and Kathleen; and WHEREAS, he realized that to make sure his family’s quality of life remained the same as when his father was alive, Irvin knew he had to do what was absolutely necessary; and WHEREAS, in 1950, at age 15, he relocated to Miami, Florida with his uncle Alwyn “Lad” Richards; and WHEREAS, Brownie, a musician, played the drums and sang calypso i …
