DAT 115 Concepts Note that while this course is described as “code-less” that does not mean that we will not use code. Quite the contrary -- it is impossible to learn the programming concepts without learning a great deal of code. Examples will primarily use Visual Basic but other “languages” such as DOS, HTTP (as used by WWW browsers), and Novell batch languages or applications such as Excel and Access or processes such as on-line DataBase searches may also be used to illustrate points in the text and discussion. Introduction To Computer Programming Data vs. Information, Hardware, Software, Data organization, Programming Process, Symbols Flowcharts Definition, Advantages and Disadvantages, Symbols (OPEN, READ, MOVE, WRITE, STOP, CLOSE), Coding For Symbols. Introduction To Structured Techniques Straight Line vs. Structured Programming, Advantages and Disadvantages of Structured Programming, Rules, Sequence Structure, Decision (Selection) Structure, Looping (Iteration) Structure, Psuedocode, Initialization (Housekeeping) Functions, Termination Functions. …
