Dr. Jones-Hendrickson’s journey started at Sandy Point, St. Kitts. He had a gift that was soon rec ognized by a progressive teacher, Edwin Griffin. Simon proved him right when he passed all of the London GCE O-Level Examinations. Not having the financial means to go further in school, Simon taught at the Old Road Government School. For tunately, the U.S. Virgin Islands was opening the College of the Virgin Islands (CVI). Simon applied and was admitted. It was the beginning of a won derful and prestigious journey. Dr. Jones-Hendrickson has an A.A. in Business Administration from CVI; Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Economics from Illinois State University; and, as a Fulbright Scholar, earned a Ph.D. in Eco nomics from the University of Exeter, in England. He has been an External Examiner for the University of The West Indies in Economic Theory, Quantitative Economics, Health Economics, and Public Finance; and involved with the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) as the Assistant Chief Examiner, the Chief Examiner in Principles of Business and at the level of CAPE in Economics. He is a retired Profes sor of Economics and former Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at the University of the Virgin Islands, where he worked for thirty-eight years (1976–2014). During his tenure as Dean, Professor Jones-Hendrickson set out to expand and enrich the offerings and experiences in his division, which included the addition of the Voices of Inspiration Choir on UVI’s Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. As an author, he had traveled to many venues most memorable at Caribbean Studies Association where as President, he presented one of his poems and then introduced the late Maya Angelou. His love for poetry and writing resulted in an invitation to Anguilla’s First Lit Fest and a St. Martin Literary Festival. He was very impressed with what these two countries were doing and created the Virgin Islands Literary Festival and Book Fair. His next vision was dance, but before he could finalize a plan that could be presented to the Administra tion, he was asked by the then incoming Governor, Kenneth E. Mapp, to be his Chief Economic and Fiscal Policy Advisor. Shortly thereafter, he had a massive stroke with only partial recovery. Dr. Jones-Hendrickson’s distinguished career has included serving as a consultant to the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Office of Management and Budget Office of the USVI, the United Nations, and the Government of Montserrat. He has served as Commissioner on the Task Force to resolve the economic and political issues between St. Kitts and Nevis. He was a member of the OECS Tax Reform and Administration Com mission and the Public Expenditure Review Commission. He served on the Board of the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) of St. Kitts, better known as Port Zante. He was a member of the Competitiveness Council of St. Kitts and Nevis and President of the Eastern Caribbean Copyright Licensing Association (ECCLA), an association devoted to protecting, preserving and promoting Intellectual Property Rights. Professor Jones-Hendrickson was an Ambassador of St. Kitts and Nevis to the Carib bean Community and Common Market (CARICOM), the Organization of Eastern Carib bean States (OECS), and the Association of Caribbean States (ACS). Professor Jones- Hendrickson has written and/or published over 100 articles and is an author of several books, novels and poetry. He is married to Dr. Cora Christian, a prominent physician. They are the proud parents of two children, Nesha, an attorney and Counsel to the V.I. Department of Labor, and Marcus, who currently works in private business and will be receiving his Master’s degree in Public Administration from UVI this year. Simon B.
