ACTNO, 7644 BILL NO. 30-0422 THIRTIETH LEGISLATURE OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS Regular Session 2014 An Act providing for a referendum election on whether the Legislature should consider legislation to allow for the cultivation and use of marijuana for medical and research purposes --0--- WHEREAS, modem medical research has discovered beneficial uses for marijuana in treating or alleviating pain, nausea and other symptoms associated with certain medical conditions, including but not limited to cancer, glaucoma, or positive status for HIV/AIDS, or the treatment of these conditions; a chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition or its treatment that produces cachexia or wasting syndrome, severe or chronic pain, severe nausea, seizures, including seizures caused by epilepsy, or severe or persistent muscle spasms, including spasms caused by multiple sclerosis or Crohn's disease; as found by the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine in March 1999; and WHEREAS, the use of marijuana (cannabis) has never, on its own, caused the death of anyone, in contrast with legal recreati …
