Boston, March 28th.— I'he unscheduled visi. of summer, which carried the tem- perature up from a minimum of 43 last night to maximum of 73 this afternoon, came to a sudden end in a thunder shower (onight. At ten p. m. the ther- mometer registerea 42, with incications that it would show a lower mark before morning [ae drop was accompanied by a northwest gale. Essen, Marehr 29th. Fifteen rioters were killed and forty others wounded in a clash with the security police here. The attempt to bring on a general strike ir this region has so far failed. An ex- ceptional status has been proclaimed for Dortmund, Bochum, Altenkirchen and other points in Rhenish Prassia. The exceptional Status referred to presuma- bly is similar to, or identical with the military state of seige, which will be put into force by the German authorities in parts of central Germany affected by Communists disorders. With the ex- ception of the minor outbreaks in the United States bridgehead region on Mon- day, which we promptly and effectively dealt with by the United States Military police, the disorders reported in the fore- going are the first to be co...menced in the Rhine area since the outbreak of the communist rising in Prussian Saxony. London, March 29th. Greéek troops have occupied the city of Eskichehr, capturing many prisoners and a large quantity of war material. Eskishehr ~as one of the important objectives of the Greek offensive in Asia Minor, which began last week. It is the junction be- tween the main line of the Bagdad Rail- way_.and the road running southeastward towards Konia. The capture of this city ‘CHRISTI:NSTED. V.l U SA. The Überaba went on the rocks off the coast of Maranhao Brazil, last week. The British steamer ‘‘Jusiin’’ took off some of the passengers and crew but two of the lifeboats left the stranded steamer before the '‘Jastin’’ arriveu on the scene. Chicago. March 29th.— An exylosion which rrecked a factory building on the s uth-west side caused ten deaths and in- juries o several scores of otaer persons, according to first reports received by the coroners office. City Police and Firemen said they could see bodies in the ruins of the building. The cause of the exp osion was not made known by the first ra2pore, Athens, March 29th —The Turkish Nationalist troops suffered neavy lvusses in the fizhting which preceded the cap- ture of Afiun Karahissar by the Greeks, says an official statement issued here. The lurks fiercely resisted the advance of the Greeks and made several counter attacks, but the Greeks, using the bay- onet, succeeded iu driving the Turks from the City. Afiun Karanissar was oceupied at three o’clock on Monday afternoon and the Greeks captured many prisoners and large quantities of war material it is said. The occupation of Afiun Karahissar, it is declared by newspapers here, makes the Greek march to Angora east. The news of the Greek victory was received with joy in this city, Church bells were being rung, flags being displayed and crowds gather- ing in the streets celebrating the evert. London, March 29th.—The [imes, re- ferring editorially to the deductions drawn by various Australian Journals from a reecent speech of Mr. Lloyd George that the Imperial Conference which meets here in June be led into discussion of a plan for the establish- ment of a set constitution for the whole Empire says that no idea of this kind exists among British Statesmen. The Conference is necessary, the Times says, to decide various matters of first im- portance, for the Empire, including the question of naval defence on which the Ne. 78.
