May 8 U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Governor Albert Bryan Jr. announced that the U.S. Department of Labor has awarded the Virgin Islands Department of Labor a $1.5 million National Dislocated Worker Grant to provide disaster-relief employment, along with employment training and service. The grant is funded under the federal CARES Act, which provided $345 million for Dislocated Worker Grants to help address workforce-related impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. “As we look thoughtfully to reopen our economy, a central challenge will be to fight back the virus and assist unemployed Americans in finding jobs and getting back to work,” Assistant Secretary for Employment and Training John P. Pallasch said. “Dislocated Worker Grant funding places eligible individuals into roles where they can help their communities address effects of the virus,” he said. The V.I. Department of Labor will receive an executed grant agreement, as well as a Notice of Award indicating the effective date and any special conditions for the use of the federal funds.
