TELEGRAMS. ST. CROIX STATION. Paris May 6th.—Georges Carpentier knocked out Marcel Nilles in the eight round of their scheduled 15 round bout for the French heavyweight title this afternoon. Although he won, Carpentier, according to ringside observers, added nothing to his reputation. It was notice- able that the old Carpentier spirit was lncking. Georges was in difficultic* as carly as the second round and weathe. °d the third only through the irexperienc2 and lack of combativity of his opponent. F. May 6th. —The returns received from the various districts over the weekend showed eight men elected for the Squires Government and nine for the opposition. This is exactly the same as the standing of the two parties in the last general election and in respect to the same section of the country. The return of the Squires Government to power, with about the same majority as before is generally predicted. The sections still to be heard from include those where the fishermen’s protective union predomi- fates politically. The theme is beautiful, and the story surrounding it is one that might have been taken from your household, or the household when the eyes that are as dry as the great Sahara will be moved to tears.
