Duablin, Nov. 20th.—The Habeas Cor- pus proceedings, brought in bzhalf of Mr. Erskine Childers, were adjourned this afternocon until tomorrow, the Mas- ter of the Rolls directing that no order of the military court be executed, pending a decision by the civil tribunal. When tle cise came up before the Master of the Rolls, the judge on being told that the Govt. had refused to give the names of the 8 men under arrest, in addition to Mr. Childers, declared that such a refusal was an attempt to nullify Habeas Corpus rights and if persisted in, he would re- gard the provisional Govt’s. action as a device to oust the court from jurisdiction. Counsel for the prisoners requested a stay of execution, but the judge replied that he had no jurisdiction. The ecourt asked the counsel for the Govt. if he would give an undercaking that the exe- cution of tae men would not ba ecarried out, if the court was adjourned. Coans>| repiied that he was unable to give such an undertaking. Relfast, Nov. 21st.—Th> Ulster autho- rities have deported from Belfaat about forty Protestants., whoss presence they thought detrimental to the city’s peace. Thus far, nothing concerning the depor- tation has been divulged in any of the newspapers. Relatives of the degortees are deeply irritated. Most of those de- ported are listed in the York street area, the others being from an eastern suburb of Belfast. London, Nov. 2ist.—Mr. James Ram- say MacDonald, Member of Parliament for the Aberavon division of Glamorsan- shire, the long prominent as a Labour leader, was ‘today elected leader of the Pailiamentary Labour Party. Washinugton, Nov. 21ist.—lepublican membears of the Merchant Marine Co n- mittee have azgreed on an agreemant to the ship subsidy bill, designed to effset losses to United Srates passenger ships engaged in foreign service by reason of prohibition against the sale of liquor. The amendment provides that such ships shall be paid, directly, by the Govt. for carrying mail, instead of turming the amourt due into a revolving fund, out of which all companies are to receiva cuin- pensations. Paris, Nov. 20th.—Mr. Lemieux, speaker of the Canadian House of Com- mons, was received tv President Miller- and and discussed with him the plans for the erection of Canadian war memorials in France. It has been decided to erect five such memorials in France and threc in Belgium. Brig-General Hughes and Lieutenant-Col. Osborn are associated with Mr. Lemieux in the work.
